Super Saks are handcrafted, hand painted bags made by the artists at Sunshine’s Vocational Center. Each one is unique and is made out of re-purposed industrial material. The Super Saks are available at Sunshine and Georgette’s in two sizes priced at $12 and $15. Sunshine is an affiliate of the Mennonite Health Services Alliance headquartered in Goshen, Indiana. MHS traces its roots to the 1940s and has been involved in the creation of mental health centers, acute care hospitals, retirement centers, and agencies serving youth and those with developmental disabilities. MHS Alliance members demonstrate shared values in daily ministry to those they serve, including: care of the spirit, human dignity, justice for the vulnerable, peace and reconciliation, community mutuality and service and stewardship of God’s gifts. Georgette’s is located at 311 Conant Street in Historic Uptown Maumee, Ohio. The Maumee store provides jobs for 15 individuals with developmental disabilities who work as coffee roasters, servers, dishwashers, food preparers and clerks in our gift shop. Solana is the new name for Sunshine’s wholly owned software company, formerly known as IFS/MRDD Solutions. The company, headquartered in Wauseon, has a primary focus of developing industry-specific accounting and management software designed for organizations that provide services to people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Equipped Kids is a Sunshine service that provides adaptive equipment for short-term use to children with developmental disabilities or delays in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan. Children who have temporary equipment needs while recovering from injury or surgery also have the opportunity to utilize this unique program. Equipped Kids’ available equipment includes ambulation aids, positioning devices, wheelchairs and various other items used in daily activities.
